What I'm Working On

  • Enterprise Architecture: Leading team initiatives at TIM Technologies, deep in software architecture, system integrations, and optimizing enterprise infrastructure.
  • Home Lab Maintenance: Fine-tuning my local server stack. After a recent round of Lenovo firmware updates and moving Proxmox VE from 8 to 9, the home environment is up to date, and running smoothly.
  • Website Refinement: Enjoying the new layout changes after giving this site its first major structural overhaul in 17 years. Keeping things light and fast.

What I'm Not Doing / No-Focus

  • New side projects: Keeping all dev time focused on the home lab and enterprise work.
  • Overcommitting to social events: Keeping evenings mostly open for quiet reads, movies and walks.
  • Social Filter: Politely ignoring insincerity and saving energy for genuine connections.

What I'm Reading & Watching

  • Reading: Working my way through the Jack Ryan universe interspersed, primarily, with Robert A. Heinlein novels. Favourite 3 books - Friday by Robert A. Heinlein, Hackers by Steven Levy, and Chuck Yeager’s autobiography .
  • Sci-Fi: Watched The Thing (1982) ("The lights are off, there is space behind the couch for someone to creep up on me...")
  • Technical Manuals: Working my way through the classic HP-41CX owner's manuals having fun reminiscing my time with my university calculator with a SwissMicros DM41X while the HP-41CX waits for repairs. Occasionally running the HP-41C BEEP [.mp3] command is comforting.

Around Melbourne

  • Current Project: Dreaming about working on a IBM PS/2 Model 70 — what was that about?! And there was a Luxembourg dream a night ago.
  • Early starts: 04:14 starts due to fire alarms and the sound of approaching fire engines are always fun.
  • Website: There were a number of foggy mornings in July resulting in a higher than usual number of visits to the webcam.
  • Living in the CBD: My favorite exercise is walking east along the Yarra toward the Swan Street bridge, perhaps around the MCG before returning on the south side of the Yarra — much nicer than heading toward the casino. I'd love some company to wander with, unpack everything and nothing, or just set up a picnic and watch the world go by.
  • A pub or two: A quiet read of the Kindle accompanied by a Balter XPA at Fortress Melbourne or Garden State Hotel.
  • Hoping to meet someone: Quietly looking for a partner with a great sense of humor and an interesting level of silliness to explore Melbourne and beyond together. If a casual drink and talking about happy, random things leads to something special, that would be all kinds of nice.
